March 27, 2005 - Trash pickup

Today I picked up trash with the Grove in our adopted park. It was a  fairly simple job, and not much effort was required.

And yet, I was happy to do it.

I found myself thinking, though, of the usual excuses and statements.

"I'm only one person. I can't help."

"I think that we have rights to do this. It's our land."

"Humans can't fix global problems. It's nature."

I heard these, and I thought: "No, maybe we can't help, but then, it can't hurt either."
