August 26, 2004 - Clergy/Chastity

I've always had a different view of Clergy than most Pagans. They serve the Gods first. That is most important.

Perhaps it's because of this vision of servitude, I think of clergy as also needing to be chaste. Not of mind, necessarily, but certainly of body.

Neo-Pagans always talk about free love and sex and such. It bothers me.

I don't think it's wrong to enjoy the body, but by the same token, the amount of emphasis placed on it is disturbing.

Sex *can* be sacred. It *is* not. It is not dirty, but it can often lead to distraction.

Maybe I've just seen too much in my life. Maybe I've only seen the worst of it. I don't know.

Perhaps the word "chaste" is wrong It implies denial. I don't think that's what I mean.

Gods, this entry was a waste. And it's wrong.
