August 10, 2004 - A Clergy says what?
After reading the Clergy Council issue of Oak Leaves, I return to what clergy do.
I waded through a couple of good answers (a person to turn to in time of need) and a couple of non-sensical ones (Hierophany and hierodule? Stop smoking and start making sense!), and have pulled from that a few basic ideas:
ADF Clergy should be available to people in times of need.
ADF Clergy should be teaching people how to contact deity for themselves through ritual and through building their own connections to the Kindred.
ADF Clergy should be able to perform the usual clergy services: marry, bury, counseling, naming, house blessings, etc.
ADF Clergy needs to be available to serve both ADF and the local community with any functions that it may have.
ADF Clergy should offer sacrifice to the Gods.
So how is this different from what I already do? How is this different than simply being a Senior Druid of a vibrant and living Grove?
I think the catch is one that is easy to miss, if you aren't looking too hard: training.
