March 16, 2005 - Masks, and being human
Recently, I
went back to the events
of a year ago and I realized that my mask already is in place.
I've mentioned the mask before. It's that thing that clergy wear. It's the
expectation.
People know I'm looking at this whole clergy thing, and so they're already
putting the mask on me, and seeing only that.
I took some flack for putting a short note in my LiveJournal.
Understandable, really. I'm not very pleased that it was the only way for me to
get that monkey off my back, but it really was.
Often, I think about perception, but I usually think that people deserve to see
who I am. I'm a very self-reflective person, though, and often examine my
motives very carefully.
Most of the time, I don't need to be told about perceptions and feelings and
concerns. I've already thought about them.
But I don't mind, either. It's good to get a reflection, because I'm certainly
not perfect. So yes, keep 'em comin', but don't be surprised if I say,
"Yeah, I already thought about that."
