August 02, 2004 - What is Clergy? I started out today, thinking about what I expect from Clergy. What are they all about? I think ADF Clergy is mostly about serving the community, primarily ADF but also the larger community. I'm on a path that is, in general, a very self-serving path. I want to be able to do ritual for me. I want to be able to read runes for me. I want to go to festivals for me. Clergy don't do things for themselves; they do things for their community, and that's a whole new commitment. What I do, I do for me, and I am not ashamed to admit that. If I become clergy, I need to re-examine what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. It isn't a skill-set or a tool box. It's a way of life. I founded a Grove because I was driving an hour to rituals and an hour back. It wasn't letting me have the time I wanted with Tina to continue to remain a member of 6th Night. That is the primary reason I started a Grove. The push from my deities was secondary, and came after. I write liturgy because I enjoy tweaking people's minds, and I'm highly interested in the way liturgy works. It's a plug-and-play formula. It's beautiful. I've also been told I'm too young to write chants. I very rarely answer any sort of spiritual question. I answer questions about DP requirements, yes, but almost never about the spiritual aspects of these things. I'm involved in ADF because I love the Org, and it's giving me the training I want to have. Navigation: Content © 2003-2004, Michael J Dangler |
