Indo-European Mythology 1, Requirement 8f
Discuss how the following seven elements of ADF's cosmology are (or are not) reflected in the myths of two different Indo-European cultures. For this question, please use the same two cultures as a basis of comparison for the entire question. (minimum 100 words each)
Well
In Vedism, there is no well. It's all about the fire. In Celtic lore, though,
the well is very important. The Celts believed that wells were created by
gods, and several were associated with wells. In Gaul, Grannos and
Sirona are very much associated with them, as is Borvo. Tirechan's Life of
St. Patrick includes a note about the Druids worshipping a well as a god.
(Ellis, 134) Wells are connections to the otherworld, and particularly the
underworld, and have associations with wisdom, rebirth, and knowledge. In ADF,
we primarily use them to connect with chthonic deities and the ancestors,
which is generally in line with the Celtic usage.
