Indo-European Mythology 1, Requirement 8b
Discuss how the following seven elements of ADF's cosmology are (or are not) reflected in the myths of two different Indo-European cultures. For this question, please use the same two cultures as a basis of comparison for the entire question. (minimum 100 words each)
Middleworld
The Vedic middleworld is not the earth, but the air between the earth and the
vault of the sky above. It is a region of mists and clouds, occupied by
demons, and is often described as "watery" and sometimes as
"dark." It is generally divided into two parts, the heavenly and the
terrestrial space, though it is also sometimes divided into three parts, one
of which cannot be seen or really conceptualized. (MacDonnell, 10) By
comparison, the Celtic middleworld seems to be the earth on which we stand,
though it also has a division between this and the "other" world.
ADF practice is hard to equate with the Vedic conception of a middle world,
but does fine with the Celtic one.
